Developed for people with diabetes in India, TouStar® is the first reusable insulin pen intended for delivery of Toujeo®, a concentrated basal insulin from Sanofi.

According to the International Diabetes Federation Atlas of 2019, there are currently 77 million people with diabetes in India.

Given the social and economic impacts of this disease, it is important to make concerted efforts to help people manage diabetes better and to reinforce the necessity of preventing health complications through good insulin therapy.
Against this background, TouStar® has been developed to improve access to Toujeo® insulin for people in emerging markets.

TouStar® builds on the successful AllStar® pen, a leading reusable injector that was launched in 2012.
It retains the competitive size and format of AllStar®, but has been re-designed with some significant enhancements, meaning that the new pen is familiar and re-assuring for patients, whilst offering performance that sets new standards for reusable insulin pens.

Designed with a dedicated replaceable cartridge system, TouStar® can only be used with Toujeo® insulin cartridges.
These contain a concentrated ‘U300’ formula with 50% more insulin than a regular cartridge, making them more convenient, longer lasting and better for the environment.

To prevent users from accidentally attaching incompatible insulin cartridges to TouStar®, a new dedicated cartridge system has been developed that simplifies cartridge exchange and helps to prevent potentially life-threatening insulin mix-ups from occurring. To further enhance recognition of TouStar® and differentiation from regular pens, the body and cap are subtly color coded to reflect the Toujeo® brand.

Leveraging the advantages offered by concentrated insulin, TouStar® is designed to deliver extremely precise doses, meaning that Toujeo® can be delivered in single unit increments.
A major enhancement has also been made to injection force, an important parameter in which AllStar® is already competitive.

The efficient new mechanism within TouStar® means that injection force is less than half that of AllStar®, which is beneficial for the comfort of all users and particularly those with low grip strength or limited joint mobility.
TouStar® results from a desire to create an affordable reusable pen injector for Toujeo® insulin in developing countries, with no compromises in quality, features, performance, or safety.

It has been designed for efficient local manufacture in India and is the product of a rigorous, evidence-based program.
