The UNIVERSUM MECHANICAL watch is a new vision of mechanical watch design. Not only do they show the time, but also tell stories. The watch design was inspired by the space theme and the progress of human exploration. The concept is based on merging the stylizations of two celestial maps — ancient and modern — which emphasizes the human achievements in understanding the order of the Universe. When designing the watch, we were challenged by combining the striking concept implementation with the convenience of day-to-day use.

Geocentrism was taken as the basis for the concept. In the old days, people believed in geocentrism, according to which, the Earth was the center of the Universe with the Solar System objects revolving around it. With the UNIVERSUM MECHANICAL collection, the designers are drawing attention to both the importance of a scientific approach to knowing things and the need for preserving the historical and cultural heritage of the different epochs that saw those discoveries. The example would be a reliable, not abstract, ancient celestial map that dates back to the IXth century and has survived to the present day. The designers have depicted it on the left side of the dial, for it serves as a symbol of the space representation at that time.

Symbolizing today’s understanding of the Universe order, the same celestial bodies, yet arranged in the correct sequence in the Solar System, are depicted on the right side of the dial.

The designers wanted the watch owner to be able to discover something new in it with time. For this reason, the design includes various, not catchy, references to the collection theme, which makes the experience of wearing the product more exciting.

All the writings on the left side of the dial are in Latin, in accordance with the ancient source, while those on the right side are in English which is the modern embodiment of Latin. This is how we have reflected the symbolic transition from one epoch to the other. The outer dial ring is stylized with constellations.

To make the watch user-friendly and improve its functionality, the designers made three hands and equipped the dial with two indication rings — internal and external. The external ring comes with a full-hour hand rotation in 24 hours while the internal, or classic one, is equipped with a rotation of the minute and second hands in 12 hours. The watch has a calendar and is installed with a 24-jewelry Seiko NH34A mechanism. The watch case is made of stainless steel.
