Good Design 2022 Recognizes Thousands of Designers and Manufactures for the ‘Best of the Best’ in New Global Design for Consumer Products, Environments, Graphics, and Packaging
Since 1950, GOOD DESIGN has been the most globally recognized trademark when it comes to design excellence awarding the latest, most advanced products and designs for their innovation and invention from FORTUNE 500 companies, manufacturers, start-up companies and the world’s most renowned designers and architects.
Founded in Chicago in 1950 by Charles and Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen, and MoMA curator Edgar J. Kaufmann Jr., GOOD DESIGN is internationally recognized as the ultimate, global symbol for design excellence.
GOOD DESIGN is the first, oldest and longest running design prize in the world that honors all design achievements in all its disciplines: from product, packaging, communication and service design, architecture, and interior architecture to user interface (UI), user experience (UX), and professional concept.
The highly-prized, highly anticipated, and highly-publicized awards are bestowed annually by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Finnish architecture and design critic, Christian Narkiewicz-Laine has served as GOOD DESIGN’s chief curator since 1987.
He is also the president/CEO of The Chicago Athenaeum.
Originally conceived in a collaboration between MoMA and the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, the program’s goal has been to recognize exceptional achievement in industrial design.
The logo, designed by Chicago graphic designer Mort Goldsholl in 1950, is one of the world’s top and most immediately recognized logotypes.
Over the decades, the program has since grown to highlight design in many connected disciplines, including architecture, design strategy, branding, digital interaction, and so much more.
Each year, thousands of entries are submitted by design teams across the globe.
The annual global competition evaluates product design, communication design, packaging design, and concept designs by the world's leading brands and sheds light on current trends emerging in the international design and manufacturing sectors.
For 2022, the Museum received a record number of submissions from the world’s most prestigious design offices and leading, visionary manufacturers from over 52 countries representing the design collaborations of thousands of designers and architects and leaders in the manufacturing industry.
Approximately 4,000 shortlisted entries were judged by independent and international jurors with the awards given to the designs with the highest design quality, innovation degree, and superior design.

The program encourages an in-depth and forward-thinking process to ultimately honor the world’s best design that brings real benefit to users, clients, and society.

This fact further enriches GOOD DESIGN’s history of only recognizing the very best submissions each year.
For many designers, GOOD DESIGN sets the standard for examples of exceptional design and is frequently used as a reference when developing new products.
The GOOD DESIGN Awards sets the benchmark for what a design award represents and has endured 72 years to become a career-defining catalyst for those talented enough to win.
For this 72nd edition of GOOD DESIGN, award winners will be honored and celebrated at the “Good Design Show,” which opens at The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies in Athens, Greece starting March 31, 2023.
A glamorous awards presentation and gala dinner will be held at the foot of the Acropolis that same night.
The over 1,100 awarded products, graphics, and environments for this year’s Good Design are also published in the 2022-2023 Yearbook by Metropolitan Arts Press Ltd. and is available at metropolitanartspress.com.
