The only closed-cell foam seat made entirely from off-cut foam waste. Chipper™ is a lightweight and easily packed seat cushion that reflects a big step in sustainable manufacturing. Made entirely from remolded PE foam scraps from NEMO’s award-winning Switchback™ sleeping pad production, the company is reducing our footprint and making a versatile product that can be used as a seat pad for hunters, hikers, and spectators; a kneeling pad for gardeners; or as a clean spot to hose off while showering with NEMO’s Helio™ Pressure Shower.
Sharing the efficient hexagonal patterning that separated Switchback™ from the decades-old patterns competitors have continued to use, Chipper™ provides a more supportive and comfortable seat while packing down small to accompany you anywhere.
The contours of Chipper™ provide a feeling of suppleness and protect the user from cold, wet ground with an R-value of 2.0. Sustainable Solution Chipper™ closed-cell foam seat is made completely from 100% off-cut PE foam waste.
Using the HIGG Materials Sustainability Index as a measuring tool, Chipper will remove 8.8 tons of scrap foam from the waste stream in its first year of production, destined for incinerators and landfills, and 48 tons of CO2 that would be used in producing a virgin foam product.

NEMO has been working to educate itself on impactful, scientifically proven actions the teamcan take to make a difference in climate change and sustainability. The team has surveyed manufacturing partners and developed standards of practice; analyzed shipments and eliminated unnecessary packaging and created more efficient packing systems; promoted the adoption of the HIGG index throughout the company’s supply chain; are a founding member of the Climate Action Corps; the company’s founder & CEO, Cam Brensinger, chairs the OIA Sustainable Business Innovation committee; and the company has a Global Distribution and Sustainability Manager on staff to coordinate the efforts company-wide.
This work has led us to develop this solution with the company’s manufacturing partners, as well as integrate BLUESIGN, post-consumer recycled (PCR), and repurposed materials into other areas of the product line.
